Gift to Friends of Callan Park

At the general meeting of Friends of Callan Park on Monday 10 February 2020, local artist Barbara Aroney donated a concertina book containing 24 illustrations of Callan Park.  The book and paper are old and delicate — a metaphor of the park itself.  Barbara’s illustrations are interpretative but recognisable and highlight the beauty of this wonderful suburban oasis.   FOCP is very fortunate to receive such a gift

For those interested to know more about Barbara Aroney — she is a local artist with a studio at One+2 Artist Studios, Balmain Road, opposite Callan Park Main Gates at Cecily Street entrance.  Her work is in many private collections in Australia and overseas and is held in the State Library of NSW and the Australian National Library.

Barbara has an upcoming exhibition “Time Out” opening on Wednesday March 4, at Leichhardt Library, Italian Forum, 23 Norton Street, Leichhardt at 6 pm.  For catering purposes – please register with Eventbrite  –  tps://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/art-exhibition-time-out-tickets-93440802957

Barbara describes her exhibition: “In this exhibition I paint and draw the serviceable cups and silver cutlery of restaurants of the 1940s and 50s starting with those from my father-in-law’s Aroney’s Fish Restaurant in Tamworth.  I hope the paintings evoke the ‘time out’ of morning teas and café meals that once punctuated a heavy working day, and are a reminder of how food and drink can shape and celebrate our days.”
